Dear Reader:
What better way to honor National Forest Products Week in the U.S. (this week) than to do it celebrating the forest products that excite you the most. And for me, that go-to is mass timber.
There’s something special about seeing a mass timber structure in person, especially when its architects set out to create a piece of art that does more than stand tall. Who among us doesn’t love a building that tells a story, inspires wonder, and connects us to the natural beauty and possibilities of wood?
My business partners (Craig and Tom) and I have a tradition of visiting mass timber buildings whenever our travels allow and wherever we might find ourselves on this beautiful planet. I had the pleasure of continuing that custom with my wife Debbie just the other day on a trip through North Dakota.
We made a point to route through Medora to see the new Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library. And wow, and I do mean wow. This wasn’t just any building tour... it was truly an experience. The legacy it honors is remarkable, and the structure itself is spectacular. I left feeling inspired by this historic leader — creator of the U.S. Forest Service, among so many other achievements — and incredibly proud of the many forest industry and International Mass Timber Conference partners whose work helped bring this project to life.
The Library’s foundational pillars of “Leadership, Citizenship, and Conservation” truly resonate with me. They reflect the values Teddy Roosevelt lived by and the work the Library carries forward. They also remind me of what I see happening every day across our mass timber community and forest industry as a whole: people with grand vision who roll up their sleeves, address societal challenges with working solutions, and leave something meaningful for the next generation. TR would approve.

I encourage you to make your way to Medora and see for yourself. I believe you’ll be as moved and renewed by Roosevelt’s legacy and work as I was, and you’ll tour a truly exceptional mass timber building while at it. The North Dakota Badlands will be the icing on the cake.
If you’re planning your next International Mass Timber Conference & Expo (IMTC) experience, don’t miss our March 16, 2027, Building Tours in and around Portland, Oregon. It’s an opportunity to see remarkable projects up close, learn from the people making them happen, and build connections that can carry forward long after the conference ends.
Thank you to all the partners who helped make the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library a reality, and to everyone in this industry who continues to push forward, innovate, and make a difference. Our team is grateful to be part of it.
I hope to see you in March!

IMTC Building Tour Spotlight:
Rosboro's Springfield Manufacturing Campus
While Arnie was taking in the stunning architecture at the Presidential Library, the IMTC team has been preparing to showcase a giant of the industry closer to home. If you’re ready to experience a next-generation, log-to-finished-beam facility, registration is open for our upcoming tour of Rosboro’s expanded Springfield manufacturing campus.
As North America’s largest producer of glue-laminated timber, Rosboro recently poured over $120 million into upgrading its Springfield operations, including a cutting-edge glulam plant boasting 70 million board feet of annual capacity. Join us on March 16 for an exclusive, behind-the-scenes tour of their new operations.

Building History: The New Teddy Roosevelt Presidential Library
Since July 4, 2026, tens of thousands of people have journeyed to a sleek, low-slung form that blends into the rugged, dry and barren landscape of the Badlands, North Dakota. It’s the site of the newly opened Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library (TRPL), which houses digital and physical library collections and high-tech, interactive exhibits about the life of the iconic 26th president of the United States.
The $450-million library is on pace to attract about 500,000 visitors in its first year and is expected, the state of North Dakota has stated, “to become a cornerstone of (the state’s) tourism experience.”
