FROM THE EDITORS
Dear Reader:
The Mass Timber Building Tours are consistently the most talked-about part of the International Mass Timber Conference & Expo, and for good reason. There’s no substitute for standing inside a finished mass timber building, whether you’re checking a connection detail, studying the erection sequence, or seeing where your fiber or products ended up.
The 2027 building tour list spans offices, civic buildings, a research lab, a football training facility, manufacturing, and fabrication — quite possibly our most diverse lineup yet. And that full roster is now displayed in all its glory on our conference website for your viewing and registration pleasure.
Next year’s conference runs March 16–19, 2027 in Portland, Oregon, with Tuesday, March 16 reserved entirely for the tours. The “tour day” on the 16th will be different next year in that it’s a stand-alone day with no reception that evening (as in years past). That’s a good thing, because we’re shaking things up in 2027.
Oh, and one more thing. That shake-up includes something new that we’ve never offered at the conference before… tour tickets no longer require an event attendee pass. All for all, we say! Get your tour ticket — and your attendee pass if you like — at this link.
Best,

The Best Ideas in Mass Timber Don't Happen in a Vacuum
They happen in hallways, at happy hours, and over coffee with people who live and breathe the work. IMTC brings together architects, engineers, manufacturers, developers, and suppliers from around the world for four days of connection you can’t get anywhere else. Bring your business cards — or better yet, just your phone.
The 2027 mobile app drops this fall, and with it attendees gain access to networking from day one. Build your personal agenda from dozens of sessions, map out the exhibit hall, and connect directly with attendees, speakers, and exhibitors — all from your phone.
But that’s not all. The IMTC team is evaluating next-level mobile app features designed to transform how we connect and engage in Portland. Get excited — the attendee experience is getting a major upgrade.

Weyerhaeuser is scouting up to 10 sites for biocarbon plants
Weyerhaeuser told investors in August that it is “exploring 7-10 sites” for plants that turn wood into biocarbon, a coal substitute for steelmaking. The company owns timberland across the South, including North Carolina, Virginia and South Carolina.
The plants go to the wood. Weyerhaeuser’s presentation describes co-locations at its own sawmills and greenfield sites near its timberlands, which makes this one of the few site searches where rural counties are the natural candidates.
